The enormous economical and scientific potential of Optical Technologies must be preserved and enhanced through
innovation-supporting cluster structures. The German Competence Networks for Optical Technologies connect industry,
research, education, the finance and consulting sector as well as politics, with the aim of jointly furthering
the development and application of Optical Technologies, and thus to help promote economic growth and employment
in Germany.
For this purpose, the German Competence Networks for Optical Technologies were sponsored by the Federal
Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the national funding programme for Optical Technologies.
These regional competence networks, founded with the support from the BMBF, united in the nationwide
association OptecNet Deutschland, and set up a central office. Through these measures a unique
interregional network structure was created.
OptecNet.
The association OpTec-Berlin-Brandenburg (OpTecBB) was founded on September 14th 2000, and was officially
registered as an association in Berlin-Charlottenburg on January 24th 2001.
